1980 Piaggio ape
Enrico Piaggio in 1948 introduced the first Ape, just two years after the successful launch of Vespa.
The great idea of the Ape (i.e. The Bee) came from Piaggio Factory engineer, Corradino D’Ascanio. This handy little vehicle is actually the enhanced, three-wheeled version of the highly successful Vespa scooter (The Wasp), designed for carrying heavy loads.
D’Ascanio’s plan was a versatile, easy to use and economic vehicle, which in contrary to Vespa didn’t become a cult, but it proved to be a very useful partner for merchants and small shop owners.
